Most Delicious Cauliflower with Sweet and Sour Orange Sauce {vegan}

As I'm getting ready to share with you this delicious cauliflower wings recipe it's hard to believe, that I have been waiting so long to try this at home. I used to think, that it is hard to cook chinese food, so I enjoyed it only at restaurants. I also thought, that you have to fry vegetables in oil and the sauce was a mystery full of sugar.

But it turns out, that this sweet and sour cauliflower recipe is really easy and to make the sauce you don't need any special ingredients or cooking skills.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cauliflower
  • 1 cup of flour (I used spelt flour)
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tbsp of starch (I used tapioca)
  • 1tsp teriyaki spices *
  • 1tsp jerk chicken spices *
  • 0.5tsp red bell pepper powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Preparation:

  1. Chop cauliflower and coat it in flour.
  2. Mix the flour with the starch, spices and salt, add water and mix thoroughly.
  3. Dip cauliflower in batter. Shake off the excess dough and put it on a baking tray lined with baking paper. It's the best to look for the smallest cauliflower inflorescence place on which it is placed on the tray, so it will roast nicer.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes at 430F.
P.S. While the cauliflower is baking, you can cook the rice, I usually spice them with salt, a little bit of rice vinegar and turmeric or other spices.

When the cauliflower is completing to bake, prepare the sauce.

The sauce will need:
  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp of starch (I used tapioca)
  • 4-5 tbsp of water
  • Half orange fresh juice

  1. Preheat a pan, add oil, after few moments pour tomato sauce, fry for about 20 seconds.
  2. Add sugar, fry for a little and then add the rice vinegar and soy sauce.
  3. In another bowl mix starch with water (best just to mix by hand) and pour it into the pan. Mix everything very well.
  4. Pour orange juice. Stir and cook for another half a minute. You can try to see if it is tasty for you and add some more ingredients if needed.
  5. Turn off the heat and place the cooked cauliflower to the sauce. Mix well and serve with rice and /or fresh vegetables.

*These spices can be changed to other spices of your choice.
Teriyaki seasoning composition: sesame seeds, salt, soy sauce powder, sugar, garlic, ginger, chili peppers, black pepper, onion
Jerk chicken spices: allspice, chili pepper, salt, garlic, thyme, onion, black pepper, unrefined sugar, cumin, turmeric, bay leaves

Enjoy! We loved this dish and I will be making it again for sure, not only with cauliflower, but also with eggplant and other vegetables :)
